Make the pressure visible.
Write down income, essential expenses, and each payment due. If a card’s minimum payment is unaffordable, contact the issuer promptly. Explain what you can pay, when normal payments might resume, and the temporary arrangement you’re asking for.
Ask questions before agreeing.
Ask about the duration, interest rate, fees, and account terms. A nonprofit credit counselor may help review the budget; ask about costs and services before enrolling. A change to a credit card payment does not change the mortgage agreement.
Compare approaches carefully.
